All ladies love shoes

Thats what my mug says!

I attended the first Ladies on Lunch (LoL) event today.  I had such a great time!

I met some Twitter/blog ladies that I follow for the first time face to face and got to chat a little to some of the gals I have already met.

Part of the LoL tradition is to bring a tea cup and saucer or a mug and swap with another lady.

At the end of lunch we all swapped our tea cups/mugs and I got Sally-Jane’s mug…

I love it!

Thank you to Laura and Wenchy for organising!

If you want to find out more about LoL and the next lunch just click on the button on the top right hand side of the page.

Going once, going twice…

Nomnom me

The intrepid Sheena of Nerdmag fame has questioned the dedication of bloggers to all things self promoting and self serving.

She may be right, there are very few bloggers (at least that I know) that have put themselves out there.

So I take up the challenge and will promote myself shamelessly!

Please go here and submit your nomnom by adding my name (Gina Jacobson or @sproutsmom) and telling everyone why you want to nomnom me.

If it will take some bribery to get you to nomnom me then just tell me what it will take in the comments below!

Blog Challenge – Why my city is better than yours!

Once again Laura has given us an exciting challenge.

I *heart* Jozi!

I really really do.  I could think of no other place in South Africa that I would rather live.

Why you ask?

Well…

  • The BEST weather (not the last week or so, just ignore that).
  • Almost my entire family lives in Jozi.
  • December in Jozi is the best, no crowd, no traffic, no queues anywhere.
  • We know how to drive.
  • Hokkaido Sushi in Norwood.
  • Highveld thunderstorms.
  • I have met so many wonderful people that all hale from Jozi.
  • The ‘You make Joburg Great‘ campaign!  It just says it all.

Overheard in my office…

Due to the popularity of the ‘Overheard in my office…’ posts and with the motivation of these three ladies, and thanks to the genius that is my husband, who worked tirelessly and with much patience for my endless questions, I am proud to launch Overheard in my office…, a brand spanking new blog to document all the wacky, absurd and poke-my-eyes-out-with-a-spoon moments that happen in my office.

Please head on over and take a look around!

First days

As most of you know, Aaron started school this week.

1st day of school!

I spent just over an hour with him on Monday, getting to know the teacher and the teaching aids, meeting all the kids, the 3 dogs, 1 cat, 1 bird and 2 tortoises that make up the play school staff.

Aaron was mostly ok and by the time they went outside to play he was absolutely fine to let me go.  I came back an hour later to fetch him.  Poor kid was so tired he could barely talk.

This morning was great, we arrived, went to say hello to Elvis and Presley, the tortoises and then when we came inside Teacher J took his hand and said goodbye mommy.  Aaron said bye bye, gave me a big kiss and after buzzing me out the door spent a good three hours playing and learning with only a few minor wobblies.

Waving goodbye to daddy and Aletta on our 2nd day

I am so proud of my baby!

Overheard in my office…

R: If I have two squares in my email do I have to save them individually or will they save together?

Me: Squares?

R: Yes, those little square things in the bottom.

I realize she means attachments.

Me: No you have to save them individually…

R: Ok.

10 min later

R: Ok, I have saved them, now if I want to drag them to XYZ folder must I do it individually or will they go together?

Me: But didn’t you save it in XYZ folder?

R: Yes.

Me: Well then why do you need to drag them to the folder?

R: I always do.

Me: Ok, then they must go individually (I say this not really understanding why she needs to drag them over if they are already saved in the right folder).

Another 10 min later

R: Can you come and see this?

Me: Ok.

I walk over to her computer, she shows me that she was talking about moving the email into a new folder in her in-box (with the same name as the folder where she saved the attachments originally).

Me: So you need to drag the email to XYZ folder?

R: Yes.

Me: So then drag the email.

R: But will both attachments be moved?

*sigh*

Renewal of an old project

When we moved into our house just under 4 years ago I had great plans for the one red wall in our dining room.

I envisioned tons of family photos vying for space, old memories jostling for position with new memories, all held together by a common thread, in this case it would be the frames, all black or silver.

Just under 4 years down the line this is what that wall looks like…

Im ashamed to say it is still bare.

This is what I received for my birthday last year and the year before…

My mission is to get those frames filled with photos and onto that wall!

I am thinking of making all the photos a sepia/antique look to further bring them all together.  There will be my parents and Pauls parents wedding photos, our wedding photos, pics of Aaron, us as a family, our brothers and sisters and grandparents.

I also want to get some more silver frames.

Also, part of the plan is to have a family shoot done by Jenty sometime this year, I especially want to put her photos into the frame that says “DAD MOM ME”.

I cant wait to get going on this!
