Three things.

On Thursday Aaron was at a play date.  They have a rather large and friendly dog who loves to play.  Aaron is very aware of the protocol for greeting ‘strange’ dogs, ask permission from the humans, hand out first so the dog can sniff him and then play gently.  The kids must have been a bit rough with the dog because Aaron got bitten on his arm.  Thank heavens he was wearing a hoody and a long sleeve T.  The bite broke the skin but didn’t bleed and we landed up having an anti-tet shot (which he has amusingly been calling a anti-TIT shot).  Thank heavens the experience didn’t scare him off dogs, he is still eager to play with any dog we come across.

On Saturday we were at our cousins for tea and the kids were playing in the garden, there was a flower bed/rockery that Faith was climbing in and she must have tripped over a rock and she landed on her right wrist.  It swelled up immediately and she wouldnt move her arm.  So off we went to the ER and an hour or so, and a few x-rays later we discovered she has a green stick fracture in her wrist.  She is in a soft cast for a few days and on Wednesday I will take her for a hard cast.  Poor poppet was a bit miserable but she seems fine now and she has adjusted to using her left hand without any fuss.  Such a little trooper!

Then on Saturday night, Aaron and I cleaned Ben the hamsters cage and played with him for a bit before bed time.  Sometime in the night Ben managed to break his back leg and when Aaron took him out to play with him in the morning he noticed it.  We rushed poor little Ben to the vet and were given three options, pin the leg and keep it immobile for six weeks, amputate or put the little thing down.  The first two options were risky in that he may not have survived the surgery and they would also mean he would have been in pain for quite some time.  I couldn’t put the poor boy through that so we made the decision to send him to the big hamster wheel in the sky.  Faith didn’t seem to really care when I explained it to them, she was more interested with the picture of the anatomy of a dog on the wall.  Aaron was a bit upset but he accepted that Ben wouldnt be in pain and that he was going to heaven.  He was quite happy when I told him that Uncle Cliffy would look after him.

So, all in all an adventurous few days.  Lets hope that when they say bad things happen in threes they are right and we are done now.

On winter. And summer. And hating both.

Most people are winter or summer people.  Hot or cold.

Im not.

I do not do well in extremes.

I cannot stand to be cold and bundled up and feeling like the {Michelin Man} and not feeling my fingers and toes and ears and nose.

I also cannot stand being hot and sticky and sweaty.  I hate wearing shorts and jeans and skirts are uncomfortable.

I much prefer spring and autumn, mild and gentle weather, not too hot, not too cold, just right.

What ‘season’ are you?  Also how do you cope in the extreme cold or heat?

Handbag. What handbag?

The gorgeous and fabulous {Jodene} from {Project Me} posted about the {contents of her handbag} and I couldn’t resist posting mine.

Well, I don’t actually use a handbag any more.  I haven’t for a while now.  It started out with me using a very small, hand embroidered bag that my mom-in-law made for me, but I would just grab my wallet, phone and keys if I had to dash out during the work day.  Then {Core/iStore} sent me a gorgeous {Knomo wristlet purse} and since then I haven’t used a bag at all.

The purse has place for my cards, cash and my phone.  The only thing it doesn’t have is a dedicated space for coins.

And even though its so small, I still manage to collect some crap that shouldn’t be in there (although I actually cleaned it out on Saturday so its looking pretty good today)…

So, what’s in my ‘handbag’?

  • My bank card
  • My medical aid card
  • My drivers licence
  • My Pick n Pay Smart Shopper card
  • My Vitality Healthy Food card
  • My MySchool card
  • A random SpeedPoint slip
  • A slip of paper confirming my gym contract cancellation
  • Two tickets to a fundraiser at Aarons school that was cancelled
  • Two temporary {Tattoo-a-thon} tattoos that I was supposed to give to my kids
  • A 10c piece
  • A cherry Lip-Ice
  • And my cell phone (not pictured because I took the picture with it)

What’s in your handbag!

Food, comedy and a king size bed.

We were very kindly invited by {Tsogo Sun} to spend a night at the luxurious {Silverstar Casino and Resort} and to see the hysterically funny {Nik Rabinowitz}.

After dropping the kids and my mom and  battling some seriously awful Friday afternoon traffic (and a gps that took us THE most round about route ever), we arrived at Silverstar. We were greeted in the parking lot by a porter who insisted on carrying our tiny piece of luggage into the reception area and then on to our room.

Did I say ‘our room’?  I meant our suite!  We were seriously spoiled!  The Silverstar hotel is relatively small, with only 34 rooms in total.  We stayed in an Executive room. I could move in there and live quite comfortably.

The two best parts of the room for me were the king size bed and the gorgeous bathroom.  Its not often that hotels have a bed big enough for my six foot tall husband, so the bed was a nice surprise.  The bathroom was amazing too.  Two full wardrobe cupboards, two separate basin and vanities, a huge separate shower and an awesome oval tub that I could stretch out in, my feet touching the far end and allowing me to lie back without drowning.

Once we had checked in and dropped our things in the room we were treated to dinner at {Billy G}, a buffet style restaurant will a variety of food including pizza, sushi, salads, pastas, ribs, calamari, prawns, roast pork, roast beef, roast lamb, roast chicken, a variety of veggies and soup.  There was also a selection of yummy desserts including freshly made waffles and ice cream.  I am not ashamed to admit I went back three times.

After dinner we moved on to the one night only show with Nik Rabinowitz.  90 minutes of laughing so hard I was crying.  The man is a legend.

After the show we stopped in at {Black Cherry} for a Horlicks before bed.

I took advantage of the tub and had a steaming, turn myself lobster red, bath and then crawled into the massive bed with my book.  I drifted off into dreamland with a full tummy and a head full of giggles.

The next morning we were treated to a buffet breakfast at the Silverspoon before checking out and heading home.

If you are looking for a mini getaway, not too far from Jozi, then Silverstar is the place to go.

*They are in the middle of a huge renovation that will add a family entertainment section as well as beer garden with space for live entertainment, a bowling alley, 6 cinemas and a kids arcade, an interactive fountain and a few new restaurants.  The noisy parts of the renovation are kept to between 10h00 and 16h00.
