Day 19 → What do you think of religion? Or what do you think of politics?

*You can find the list of links of my full 30 Days of Truth here.

As in my previous post, my views start at the point of ‘to each his own’.  Im not interested in preaching my beliefs (religious or political) to anyone else and conversely I expect that people should not preach their views to me.

That being said, here are my views 🙂

Religion

I am Jewish.  I was raised in an orthodox home.  I had a Bat Mitzvah.

That being said, I do not keep a kosher home, I do not wear long sleeved dresses and cover my head (as a married woman should).

I do believe in Gd.  I believe in His commandments.  I have some issues with the laws of my religion but only in so far as they are really open to interpretation and you can speak to 5 different rabbis and get 5 different answers.  On the other hand thats part of my religion that I love.  The laws are not set in stone (no pun intended – 10 commandments anyone?) and learning the laws and customs and traditions is never ending.  You can start at the beginning of the Torah, learn right to the end and when you start at the beginning again you are bound to learn more, another layer to the lesson, another way of looking at it.

I think having a child has also cemented my views and beliefs.  I never used to go to shul regularly, 3 or 4 times a year was my limit.  Now we try go every Friday night, Aaron goes to the children’s services where they teach lessons from Torah.  I try to set a better example for him, so that he can learn.

Politics

I HATE politics!

I know we have to have governments and politicians and that without them there would be anarchy and chaos.  But, I cannot handle politics.  I have no patience for it.  My mind just cannot wrap itself around the ins and outs, the whys and the hows, the reasons they do this or that.

Im just not interested.

  1. I am convinced that anyone can be a believer in whatever they have chosen, but they do not have to be a religious nut! You can show people a lot more about what your beliefs are by acting on them rather than trying to ram them down people’s throats.
Erm… I’m going to be repeating myself when I write this blog post!
    😛
