Sci-Bono outing of awesomeness!

Yesterday we took the kids into Newtown to visit the Sci-Bono museum.

I cannot get over how much fun we all had, especially Aaron. So much fun in fact, that he didnt want to leave. We had to promise him that we would come back on the weekend!

Oh and not only is Sci-Bono fun its also a really cheap family outing. Adults are R20, kids are R10 and kids under 6 are free!

We landed up spending almost 2 and a half hours wandering around and we didnt even come close to seeing everything.

I had so much fun explaining how the mini experiments worked to Aaron. Watching his face as he saw what I told him actually happen was awesome.

We watched a science demonstration. The lady who did the demos was fantastic. The kids (and adults) were laughing and shouting and most of all learning.

We had such a fun day, the time literally ran away from us. Aaron is still talking about all the things he saw and did. Cannot wait to go back!

Chanukah!

The festival of lights, where we celebrate the rededication of the Holy Temple and the miracle of a small drop of oil that lasted 8 days!

We set our menorah in a window where everyone can see the light, we eat fried foods, latkes and doughnuts in particular and we play games and generally have a good time.

Tonight is the first night of Chanukah and Aaron has been asking us everyday for a week when we will be lighting the menorah. I cant wait to see his face tonight.

I also got my mom to buy me a mini donut maker from Clicks earlier so that I can make us some home made doughnuts for dessert tonight (I am petrified of deep frying anything so this seemed like a good alternative.)

Splish Splash!

Faith is a real water baby. She LOVES bath time and she loves swimming, doesnt matter if the water is warm or cold, she gets such a thrill out of splish splashing.

Today we got a fantastic surprise, a hamper from Huggies!

It came with a cool orange towel and a few Huggies Little Swimmer nappies.

I adore the Little Swimmer nappies. They keep little accidents from happening in the pool and they dont swell up with water. Perfect.

They are also the only swim nappies available in South Africa and as far as Im concerned the only ones I would use.

Huggies has improved on an already great product by making the sides open and close with velcro (they used to be pull ups) which is such a bonus when it comes time to change Faith.

At the moment Faith fits into the small nappies, but they come in 3 different sizes so she can wear them for as long as she needs to (up to 15kg and beyond).

Thank you Huggies for helping to make our summer a splish splash spectacular one 🙂

#CutForCANSA

Today I did something I have wanted to do for a very very long time.

I cut my hair to donate to CANSA.

I have to admit that I am pretty proud of me 🙂

I went to HAND in Parkhurst. What a lovely salon. Beautiful atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing head massage.

I am loving the wild curly look although I think the front and sides are too long so I am going back during the week to cut it shorter.

On the curly note… I never used to have curly hair, It was always dead straight until two pregnancies played havoc with my hormones and now my hair is curly. Who would have thunk it?

Good Food and good times with PnP Fresh Living

I was very privileged to be invited to the Pick n Pay Fresh Living reader event at the Good Food Studio.

Let me just say that I am not eating again for at least a week. O.M.G I am stuffed! I had to pop open the button on my jeans when I got into the car. The food was magnificent!!!!

Anka Roux and Caroline Gardener, food editors for Fresh Living magazine and Nic van Wyk, an award winning chef from Simonsburg, gave fabulous demonstrations on putting together parts of an amazing three course meal.

After the cooking demos we sat down to a cheese (Simonsberg) and wine (in house PnP brand) tasting that was so delicious. I could have had that for lunch and been totally happy 🙂 I heart cheese!

After the delicious cheese and wine we moved on to starters.

Stuffed bread bites with feta cheese…

and quince and blue cheese pies with salad…

Followed by the main course of slow-roasted shoulder of lamb with salsa verde and lemon and parmesan risotto…

This was followed by a scrumptious dessert of chocolate truffles and lemon tart…

I was very lucky to attend the event with a few other bloggers/tweeters…

I had an absolute blast this morning and cant wait to attend another event at the Good Food Studio, perhaps a hands on cooking lesson or two 🙂

Just call me Rapunzel

Cancer is something that effects everyone. Every single person I know has a story to tell. A family member, a friend, a loss or a story of survival.

Its been just over 10 years since I lost my dad. I think about him every single day. I sometimes even pick up the phone to call and tell him something and then realise I cant.

Paul also lost his dad to cancer. Our fathers are indirectly responsible for how we met 🙂

My uncle in the UK is fighting a battle with cancer.

For the longest time I have felt like I need to DO something, something tangable, something with meaning.

Last night, waiting for the baby to fall asleep, the idea of the CANSA shavathon popped into my head. Its something I say I will do, at least spray my hair, every year and for one reason or another I never do it.

I guess I’ve never been ready to do it, and spraying my hair seemed like a waste.

But now I am ready.

The minimum length requirement to donate hair to make wigs is 22cm. My hair is about 44cm!

My brother in law and his amazing fiance are getting married in April, Im pretty sure Megs would not like my shaved head in her wedding photos and I dont particularly want a shaved head at the wedding, so Im only going to do the big cut in May 2012.

Im going to put a ticker up with a countdown. Im hoping I can get a few of you to join me or to make a pledge towards CANSA when I cut my hair.

African Fashion International

Oh my! Was I spoilt. I was invited to the opening night show of African Fashion International (AFI) by Intel SA along with Jenty, Angel, Heidi, Zinhle and Danielle . We got treated to a hospitality lounge, drinks and food and got tickets to see all 5 opening night shows.

The evening started off a little rocky with the organisers at the Sandton Convention Centre being a little disorganised (oh the irony) but once we were inside it was VIP treatment all the way 🙂

The shows did run about an hour late so I didnt stay for all of them but the first three shows were fantastic.
